Events & Possibilities

Whether it’s labyrinth, writing, or expressive arts all my workshops are designed to invite and facilitate your own creativity. The spiritual dimension – and the process of making meaning– is also central to my work. Julia Cameron, author of The Artist’s Way, asserts that every person is creative. She writes, “The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.”

Some examples of my workshops :

Creative Healing Group

Group collaboration is also a powerful avenue for healing. In one of my “Creative Healing” therapy groups, the topic of worry became the theme of a collective poem. One group member had inspired this when she used the expression, “sitting in my worry chair.” I invited everyone to spend 5 minutes in each of 2 places. You can try this as well if you like, with a few friends or your family.

Instructions:

1. sitting in your worry chair,  jot down your thoughts (5 minutes).

2. Moving out of the worry – notice an affirmation that comes to you, and write that down.

3. Give these to the chosen leader, whose task is to put them together in a poem, starting with the worry thoughts and ending with affirmations.

As I was putting all the contributions into a poem, the song, “Worried Man Blues” popped into my mind – and I discovered that listening to all those worry words set to music had a completely different effect than speaking them with an anxious feeling attached to them – much like the feeling of Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash singing it.

“When I’m sitting in my worry chair,
                                               worry is what I do
Sitting in this worry chair I wish I had a clue
I tell myself to get up but it’s like a real bad flu
I worry now and I worry the whole day through”

What is most fun for me is the improvisation that occurs when people get together with a common purpose. I enjoy leading workshops with a general theme and a springboard, and then watching how it unfolds with the unique group of individuals present. Everyone has gifts, and my task as a leader is to provide a safe and comfortable space for those gifts to emerge.
